Just six miles down Hwy. 98 you can enjoy Destin – “ The Worlds Luckiest Fishing Village” – charter a private trip or take the kids out on a group boat and catch dinner.   We have stayed in this unit several times. The location and view are spectacular. The living room furniture is very worn and uncomfortable - it needs to be replaced. The dining table was falling apart. The kitchen is not very well equipped with cookware and silverware. I was very frustrated with trying to vacuum and clean up. The vacuums were in horrible shape. I went out and bought my own cleaning supplies. The view and location made it

    Mary Jo, the furniture in the living room has been replaced with a new couch and new chair, the dining table was repaired, and everything else in the kitchen was taken cared off. We also got a brand new vacuum cleaner for the unit. Last year also the owner bought brand new beautiful beds for your comfort. The unit has a spectacular view of the balcony with a 90 deg angle of views of the gulf, and a great large balcony to sit and drink your coffee in the morning and watch the sun rise.

There was a bit of a musty smell at first when we first arrived, but I checked the stay history and it was empty for a little over two weeks, so that was probably why the smell was there. Furniture is okay and the kitchen was nice, but the views you get from Unit 469 are amazing and worth it.

  We have stayed at El Matador before and love just about everything about it. Seems there is always some construction going on but that’s a good thing. We highly recommend this place for anyone wanting and private vacation. I believe this is the closest thing to an all inclusive vacation. Love it!

  We have been renting this same condo for about 15 years. Just gorgeous view and remolded kitchen. It is grand.
  
  Sliding glass door needs a new roller track, and the sand cleaned out and some silicone. Likewise the beach facing windows need ckeaning and work on the mechanisms. Lastly the aqua colored chairs are beat down and worn out.
  
  If you overlook these ussues and are into beach views, this is the best condo at ElMatador. We know because we have been coming since itopened

  Unit 469 has an incredible view of the gulf. You can watch the sunrise and sunset right from the balcony. We stayed in this unit from January to the end of March. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. The internet and TV’s worked well.
  There are some faults:
  Cold air leaks through the windows
  When the rain hits the slider it comes into the condo( happened once)
  Rain water collects in the middle of the balcony and we have to broom it off
  Poor water pressure ( issue with all the condos)
  Don’t use the garbage disposal ( not enough water pressure)
  After all this, we do plan on coming back next Jan.-March. We had a great time!

  I haveused this condo 3 of the last 5 years for "Spring Break". It is a great location and the view is wonderful. Large living room area and open kitchen area. Great for having people visit.

  One recliner was missing its arm cover. One stool for the counter was also missing. The sliding screen door for the balcony (from the living room) was tough to slide -- but I think this occurs in most units due to the atmospheric conditions.

    This beautiful modern spacious condo is located right on the beach of the Gulf of Mexico! The condo has a totally equipped kitchen, with a very large living room and Panoramic views. A GORGEOUS FULL FRONTAL VIEW OF THE GULF OF MEXICO! (from the Balcony, living room and bedroom!) It is a 6th floor Penthouse - elevator of course. The huge pool face the water and so does the gazebo, were you can go there and enjoy your drink and watch the sunsets.

  This is my 2nd year going to El Matador and using Alicia Hollis for the booking. The best experience, from the very beginning to the end. The ease of selecting a condo and room to the friendly greeting at Alicia Hollis'office at check in. This made it to a great start to the best vacation. This year we selected Condo #469 at El matador. The most beautiful and updated condo you could ever ask for. It's a condo you dream of living in. The views from the kitchen, the views from the living room and bedroom, you cant find this anywhere else (i've looked). We will be coming again next year, and selecting the same Condo. I cant wait to be back next year. We are considering 2 weeks, because once you stay here, you will never want to leave.   The location is WONDERFUL!! Gulf and Santa Rosa Sound views are breathtaking!!! We love the Ft. Walton Beach area because it's close enough to Destin to get there easily, but far enough removed to avoid the mess and crowds. This condo is nicely decorated and updated. The master bed is satisfactorily comfortable, but the two double beds in the guest bedroom are visibly worn, sunken in in the center of both mattresses. The oven didn't work when we arrived. I called when I discovered this (on Sunday) and of course no one was able to come repair it until Tuesday afternoon. Tuesday night when more family arrived, there were no sheets for the pull-out sofa bed. Since this was discovered at bedtime, we couldn't get sheets until the next day. Overall, we were happy and had a great vacation, but these few glitches were inconvenient.

  The view from the balcony in Unit 469 is breathtaking. We have stayed in Unit 469 for a number of years and are never disappointed when we spend a week there in the summer. The property is always clean and well maintained. We love it here and plan on booking Unit 469 again in the future.

  My two kids and their spouses and our grandkids have been coming to El Matador for decades. We also have a another couple meet us their and stay at a third condo.We had 469 and 419 this year, both newly remodeled and have an identical kitchen layout.And we have the same units for next year,Yahoo!
  Our lifeguard Dominic was the best ever and the water was clear enough to snorkel. One rainy day was filled with grilling oysters and shrimp and playing ball on the lawn.The grandkids, ages 4 to 10 (4), met new friends from all over the country. Very cool!

  Pew rented our condo two years in a row. This year, the cleanliness was MUCH improved.
  The only thing I see that might need improvement is replacing the carpeting in the bedrooms. Overall, everyone we vacationed with, thought our cono was the best!!

  This was our first time renting a condo at El Matador. I loved the condo with one exception. I do not believe the condo was cleaned the way it should be. For a 150.00 cleaning fee, I expect not to see dirt on my feet immediately after my shower on the first night. I expected the shower doors to be cleaned of their soap scum. I will definitely make sure the floors and bathrooms are clean before unpacking next year. Other than that, we loved our stay.

You should anytime when you check in and find something is not to your satisfaction, please, please call us and we would have taken cared of that right away, and sent the Housekeeper back up there to clean it. There is no reason for you to be unhappy on your wonderful vacation, and have dirty floors.   We like the location of El Matador Condos, unit 469 has a beautiful view but the accommodations we feel could be better in this unit. That is the reason for the low scores regarding the general condition. The master bed is uncomfortable, we also did not have proper bedding, no masterbed blanket and the sheets were very old. The accommodations in the spare bedroom are old as well. Lastly, the unit was not very clean when we arrived.

  I have always booked rentals at El Matador thru Alicia Hollis since the 80's. Never a problem, always helpful, and promptly takes care of any problem that may arise. Can't ask for better people to work with, especially Chris, the person I usually deal with. El Matador is, I think, the oldest condo on the island, but the best in my opinion. Very well maintained, 24 hour security, and miles of undelevoped beach next door. Lots of roomy lawn space, large main pool next to beach that is spotless, and friendly beach guys that handle chair and umbrella rentals. This is my favorite spot on my favorite beach.

  The unit and view were enjoyable.
  
  The modem needs a different cord or positioning to be able to effectively use a laptop computer - sitting at the kitchen table. There is no chair sitting right next to the table with the modem on it. It was awkward to hook up to - and we were reported as having tangled their cords up - just trying to figure out a position that would work well.
  
  The countertops were beautiful - but it is difficult to visibly see spots and food residue on them because they are so dark. This is good and bad. We were accused of leaving the counter tops sticky and I had brought my own cleaning wipes and used them often on that countertop - but unless you run your fingers over it - you miss sticky spots. You can't see them - but you can feel them.
  
  
  I did not like being scolded by Alicia and being told how trashy we left the place and how inconvenienced the cleaning crew was with nit-picky things. They are paid to clean and that was a normal level of cleaning.
